Are you looking for an inexpensive toy that can be used indoors and outdoors? Then look no further than a kids toy sink with running water! This toy has many developmental benefits and is sure to be a big hit!
Why a toy sink with running water is a good purchase
Wat are the Benefits of Water Play?
Water play has many benefits for young children. From imaginative play to practical life skills. Here are a few examples:
Cause and effect (rocks sink and leaves float)
Learning math, science, and language: measuring, new words, different temperatures, etc.
Motor skills from pouring, stirring, splashing, turning the faucet on and off
Water play can be a calming activity and it is also a great way to reset a grumpy day
The Benefits of Mimicking Household Chores
Activities and toys that mimic household chores are beneficial too!
Practicing washing dishes in a play sink will normalize this chore for your child and once they’re old enough to practice this chore in real life with you (if they’re not already) it will be an easy step from imaginative play to real world practical life skills.
A toddler cleaning set is a great purchase as well! These have the added bonus of practicality. They can sweep up the Cheerios they spilled on the floor. Cleaning up your child’s messes will build their confidence and give them a sense of accomplishment. It will also teach them cause and effect.
Toy Sinks Are a Great Outdoor Activity
Throw your toddler in a swim suit and have zero worries about where all that water ends up.
They can splash and pour and run with the water and you won’t have to worry about cleanup!
Using cold water would be a great way to cool off on a hot day!
A lot of natural items to add to the water play such as leaves, flowers, rocks, etc. (use care with these items though since it could cause the sink to not function properly if these items get sucked into the pump).
I love this little portable sink! It came with a lot of accessories and it was very inexpensive. These sinks regularly go on sale on Amazon!
Being able to take the sink outside is a great reason to purchase one of these smaller portable sinks instead of a large functional kitchen. Or you could purchase this sink in addition to a large kitchen that isn’t functional.

Cold Weather Means More Indoor Play
Fall is approaching and that means cold weather is headed this way. It also means a lot of rain where I’m from.
That will significantly limit our outdoor play. Since half the year (and often more…) isn’t ideal for long periods of outdoor play I am always on the lookout for toys and activities for indoors!
This practical toy is great for open-ended play. Which my daughter definitely favors. Open ended toys keep her attention much longer than single purpose electronic toys.
Mess Free!
I’m sure you’re thinking about what a mess this could be. If you’re worried about your floors or the cleanup from this activity I have a solution for you!
A Splat Mat! We originally purchased this mat when my daughter started eating solid foods. The home we lived in had carpet in the dining room (what were they thinking!?!?).
We did end up moving out of that home so we don’t need the mat for meal times anymore (although sometimes it would be easier to scoop it up and shake it outside!) BUT we do use it for arts and crafts or messy activities!
This mat hasn’t let me down yet. My daughter literally pours water on it and it has never leaked. Even after pouring a cup of water on the mat the underside is still completely dry!
It’s got a non-slip backing so it stays put, and it’s machine washable too!
Give it a try!
These working toy sinks are such a great purchase for so many reasons! Keeping your toddler entertained has never been easier.
A toy that is great for open ended play, can be used indoors and outdoors, teaches life skills, motor skills, and more!

Great recommendations! I’m curious if you have any advice on incorporating water play in a small apartment. Space is a bit tight, but I’d love to provide my child with these developmental benefits.
